The Sweet Delusion Brought by Possessing Images

Consumers express their identity and gain emotional satisfaction by purchasing specific brands. The images and sensibilities created by brands wrap around us like captivating clothes.

Yet behind this sweet sense of satisfaction lies a precarious illusion: the feelings and symbols sold by brands are by no means the substance of the "true self." Wearing clothes from an eco-friendly brand does not instantly make one an environmental activist, nor does putting on top-tier sneakers from a sports brand grant the physical capability of an athlete. Nevertheless, many modern individuals fall into an "easy self-intoxication," deluding themselves into believing they have already become such a person simply by possessing the brand.

Unhealthy Living Born from Easy Substitution

This delusion is a prime example of the unhealthiness bred by a consumerist society. To truly accomplish something requires autonomous effort—honing oneself through time, sweat, and countless trial and error.

However, the brilliant "image" provided by brands replaces this essential process with the easy means of money. When tangible achievements and results that ought to be built with sweat are substituted by hollow consumption, humans lose their agency and deteriorate into passive spectators dependent on illusions crafted by brands. A life hiding behind substance-less emotion can never be called authentic or healthy.

Action: Creating Results by Using Function as a Tool

A truly healthy life is fulfilled when one breaks free from the illusion of consumption, using "practical functionality" as a tool to create "real results in life" on one’s own. Rather than being lured by hollow images to buy items meant for display, one must first adopt an attitude of practicality and craftsmanship—meticulously selecting products for the essential functionality genuinely needed.

Then, using those excellent tools, one must take action: actually running, writing, solving problems, and changing the world. What truly fills a life is not what one "possesses," but what one "does" with those tools.

Sensibility Beyond Illusion: A Catalyst Driving Action

Is the emotional feeling offered by brands completely useless and fake, then? Not quite. While the feeling itself cannot be the purpose or substance of life, it gains positive value when serving as a "priming pump" that leads to autonomous action.

If the subtle joy and emotional immersion felt when holding a solid tool you love acts as a driving force toward actual practice, that sensibility becomes a useful catalyst that enriches life. What we must guard against is self-intoxication that remains stuck in mere feeling; sensibility that leads to action breathes vitality into life.

A Declaration Toward an Autonomous Life

Ultimately, the essence we must protect as we navigate modern society is the "recovery of agency." We must step away from a life fooled by the outer shells of flashy images and causes sold by brands, deluding ourselves with "This is who I am."

A life that takes solid, functional products as honest tools to forge tangible results with one’s own sweat—a person who knows how to use subtle emotional joy as fuel during that honest process of action—is the healthiest agent of all, writing their own authentic life without getting swept away in an era overflowing with illusions.
