The premise of philanthropy—the love of all humanity—lies in its “indiscrimination of the object.” However, the statement “I will be found only by those who seek me” reveals a blatant intent to divide humanity into two categories: the seekers (the loyal) and the non-seekers (the indifferent). This is akin to a parent declaring they will only feed the child who approaches them first with affection. Within this structure, God is not the guardian of universal justice, but merely the “architect of a psychological reward system” who dispenses compensation only to those who validate His existence.
The Marketing of a Deficient God: “Desire Me Earnestly”
A truly abundant and perfect being should, by nature, illuminate and care for others regardless of whether they seek Him or not. The sun is sublime precisely because it sheds light equally on those who worship it and those who curse it. Yet, the God of religion plays a game of “push and pull,” saying, “I will show myself only if you demonstrate the effort to find me.” This is not love; it is a “display of power.” Manipulating others into longing to artificially inflate one’s own value is not the attitude of a philanthropist, but the statecraft of an authoritarian seeking to maintain dominance by exploiting the deficiencies of others.
The Arrogance of the Religious: Disguising Favoritism as Justice
The reason the religious defend this logic is simple: to justify their own sense of superiority as members of the “seeker” category. While they praise God’s universal love, they would immediately protest if God were to grant the same salvation to those who were not as zealous as themselves. Ultimately, the doctrine that God is “found only by those who seek Him” is the projection of an infantile human desire for monopoly—a wish to receive special treatment even if it means turning God into a partialist. They do not expand God’s love; they build a narrow gate that only they can enter and imprison God within it.
Closing Thoughts
If God only responds to “those who seek Him,” He is no longer a philanthropist. He is merely a “massive and sophisticated echo chamber” that reacts only to the voices that praise Him.
The “phil” in philanthropy (or the bak in bak-ae) signifies a lack of boundaries. Yet, religion constantly draws lines and demands “earnest seeking (faith)” as a toll to cross those boundaries. Logically, if God is truly omnipotent and philanthropic, He must already be present even in the darkness of those who do not seek Him—even those who deny Him and walk their solitary path.
They cannot abandon this contradiction because they must make God a partialist to maintain the religious organization and manage “loyalty.” The discomfort you feel is an intellectual rejection of a religious ploy that drags cosmic universality down to the level of narrow collective selfishness. If true truth exists, it must already exist equally within your very breath, regardless of your “effort to find it.” A God who hides and challenges you to a game of hide-and-seek is playing a game that is far too human for the intellect to take seriously.
