If a creator designed humans and endowed them with an operating principle (free will), then the possibility of that machine malfunctioning is also a part of the design. An omniscient being could not have been unaware that humans would eat the forbidden fruit, and if an omnipotent being did not prevent it, “Original Sin” is not a human error but a “Default Setting” installed by God. To deflect the blame for this flaw onto humanity, instill an eternal sense of debt, and then declare that only He can forgive that debt—this structure follows the classic grammar of “gaslighting” in a modern sense. It is a sophisticated technique of psychological dominance: injecting guilt into the victim to increase their dependency on the perpetrator.

The Judgment of a Creator Who Made a Defective Product

It is a deception for a manufacturer to knowingly overload a component’s threshold and then blame the product when it breaks. Religious narratives grant humans the noble title of “free will,” yet simultaneously brand the exercise of that will as “sin” whenever it conflicts with divine command. This is not the gift of choice; it is the imposition of a harsh ultimatum: “Obey me, or be punished.” The product called “Salvation” only gains value if the human is first defined as a “Sinner.” This marketing strategy—diagnosing existence itself as a “disease” and presenting oneself as the “sole cure”—fundamentally paralyzes human subjectivity.

The Chains of Control: The Sense of Indebtedness

The core of gaslighting is the repetition of two messages: “You are nothing without me” and “Your suffering is your fault.” The doctrine of Original Sin implants a sense of self-loathing, telling humans, “You are inherently evil and incompetent.” Even when humans strive to reach moral integrity through their own strength, religion labels it “pride” and breaks it down. The logic that one can only be saved through divine grace destroys human self-esteem and imprisons the individual in eternal passivity. The sense of an unpayable debt becomes the most powerful chain a collective uses to control the individual.

Closing Thoughts

The eeriness you feel comes from smelling “domination” packaged as “love.” A true creator would rejoice in their creation standing on its own feet; they would not seek glory in seeing that creation prostrate at their feet confessing sins.

If a god designed a flaw and demands that humans pay the price, that god is not an object of worship but an “object of intellectual resistance.” The courage to say, “The fault is not in my sin, but in the cruelty of your design,” is the first snip of the scissors that cuts the chains of gaslighting. Intellect is the decision of the solitary individual who refuses to be an actor playing out a divine script, turns off the stage lights, and sets out to find their own path in the dark.

Salvation is not a rope lowered from above. Rather, the moment you strip off the label of “sinner” that binds you and declare, “I am whole as I am,” you are already saved. Leave the doctor who tries to make you a patient and start walking the wilderness with your own healthy legs. There lies the vast, uniquely human freedom that God’s gaslighting cannot reach.
